I got the “/Now” page idea a little while ago from Justin Jackson, who, got it from someone else. So in true internet fashion, I decided to rip it off. Because that’s what the internet is for. Btw, if you’re unfamiliar with Justin, he’s putting out killer stuff and you’re missing out.
I haven’t decided yet if the /Now page is for me or for you, or if it really matters. But I think it will be helpful to have a public place to keep track of things and keep me focused. And also to let other people in on what’s going on because I actually (usually) like most people’s feedback.
Tube Media Co.
If you landed on my personal site, it’s very possible that you know about my love-child/agency Tube Media Co. It’s a scrappy little creative agency designed for small businesses and startups.
I love WordPress and I hate formatting and putting together proposals. But I also refuse to use ugly documents. I think even proposals and contracts/agreements should look great. We are currently building a plugin that you could install on your site that would provide the awesomeness of your site’s and branding and style that you worked so hard to for and bake into your proposal. Which you’ll then be able to send directly to your clients to sign and download a signed pdf version. I don’t have a name for it yet so if you think of a cool one, let me know! And if you would be interested in using the plugin, definitely let me know. We’ll need beta testers for it!
A lot of Writing
I’ve been absent from writing for quite a while. It’s usually easier for me to put it off and work on the things that are right in front of me or have hard deadlines. But it helps to get my ideas and thoughts out of my head.
- I’m reading Justin Jackson’s new book Marketing for Product People. If you are into marketing or run a business, you should read this book.
- I’m dipping my toes into the world of CSS Preprocessing. I’m a designer, but I also do a lot of front-end development work and I’m thinking that learning SASS, LESS, Stylus, or something comparable would help speed things up. Plus, the more I learn about dev, the better I’m able to communicate with my developers that are doing the actual heavy lifting. Which is good for everyone.
- Sleep More- One of my goals for this year is to start sleeping more. At least 7 hours per night, to be exact. Currently I’m averaging almost 6! Which is better than the 5 that I was averaging at the end of 2015.
These are things that are on the horizon in the next few weeks.
Email Course for Business Owners
Soon I’ll be putting together my email course on how to hire a designer. This course will be free and will be focused on teaching small businesses the ins and outs of working with a designer, hiring a designer, and answer a lot of the common questions that come up in conversations I have with my clients about the black art of “creative work.” I don’t have a signup list for it yet, but if you want me to let you know when it launches, just send me a message.
School Admin and Education Software
This is a client project that is starting in March. We’ll be renaming and rebranding the software, creating their website, and putting together the marketing strategy on an on-going basis. Basically, we’ll be the companies marketing/design department for the next few years and we are super pumped. That’s about all I can say at this point. This is one of those projects that takes us in a new direction, and we love new directions 🙂
